A YouTube converter is a software that allows you to download and store YouTube videos locally. This makes the files portable, i.e., there is no internet connection needed to play them. With a converter, you can convert videos to audio and other video formats. For example, it’s convenient to just convert the videos on YouTube into an audio format such as MP3 for music. Then you can transfer the files to a portable player or your mobile phone and listen to them on the go.
A video can be converted to audio or another video format. The most common audio format is MP3. This format enables high-quality and space-saving storage of audio files. Similarly, MP4 is the most common video format. This format is designed for high image quality, up to HD, also with low memory requirements. In addition to MP4, the AVI (Audio Video Interleave) format is quite common, as it is the default format under the Windows operating system.
With QWeb you can download files in MP3 or MP4 format.
The ID3-Tag (from “identify to MP3” and “tag”) is a format that can be used to store metadata for audio files. The metadata includes, for example, album title, artist or song title, and even the music genre. By storing these data in a part of the audio file itself, and not in the file name or directory, problems caused by different character encodings are avoided. The metadata also allows special characters. In addition, playback devices can access the information, and sort by album and artist (for example).
Many YouTube converters need to be installed as additional software and started manually. There are also websites that can be used for conversion, but these must first be opened by hand, and then the link must be copied and pasted. Our YouTube converter appears as a banner directly above the video on YouTube. The conversion to both MP3 and MP4 formats is started with just one click. Therefore, no third party software is required, and the link does not have to be copied first.
In principle, any user may download data from public websites, provided that the sites or sources are not obviously unlawful. Since YouTube is not an obviously illegal website and, for example, has contracts with GEMA, downloading video or audio files is not illegal.
Although the YouTube Terms and Conditions state that the download or permanent storage of videos is not permitted, these terms and conditions only apply if the user owns a YouTube account and has accepted the terms and conditions. But even those who have set up an account on YouTube need not worry: there are no known cases in which users had to bear legal consequences by downloading YouTube videos.
If you have installed the software and no longer wish to use it, you can uninstall it from the Windows Programs and Features submenu. To do this, open the list of installed programs, select QWeb with a right-click, and then click on “Uninstall.”
An overview and short instructions for Qweb functions can be found at the feature section. All functions – the YouTube converter, the search engine redirection, and the Silent Price Compare- are integrated directly into the browser, so no further steps are necessary.
